How to Get the Most Out of Your Candle

With a little care, you can enjoy a cleaner, longer-lasting burn from your gorgeous candles and fill your home with the most beautiful fragrances.

Storage

Always store candles in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the wax melting. Keep candles clean by wiping away any dust or soot to ensure a clean and safe burn. 

Before You Light

• Place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
• Keep it away from draughts, children, pets, and anything flammable.
• Before every burn, trim the wick to around 5mm. This helps prevent smoking, soot, and large flames.

The First Burn is the Most Important

The first time you light your candle, allow it to burn until the melted wax reaches the edge of the container. This usually takes 2–4 hours, depending on the size of the candle.

Doing this helps prevent "tunnelling", where wax is left around the sides and your candle burns down the centre, reducing its lifespan.

Burn Time

For the best performance:

• Burn your candle for 2–4 hours at a time.
• Avoid burning for more than 4 hours in one session.
• Allow the wax to cool and solidify before relighting.

Keep Your Candle Clean

• Remove any wick trimmings, matches, or debris from the wax surface.
• If your wick develops a "mushroom" tip, simply trim it before the next burn.

Extinguishing Your Candle

Use a candle snuffer where possible, or gently blow out the flame. Avoid using the lid to extinguish the candle unless it has been specifically designed for that purpose.

When Your Candle is Finished

For safety, stop burning your candle when around 10mm (½ inch) of wax remains at the bottom of the container.

Once cool, the container can be cleaned with warm soapy water and reused or recycled.

Candle Safety

Always remember:

• Never leave a burning candle unattended.
• Keep away from children and pets.
• Keep candles at least 10cm apart.
• Do not move a candle while the wax is liquid or the container is hot.
• Never burn your candle near curtains, decorations, or other flammable materials.
